The beginning of your Romantic Tour

Having received our invitation, you will need a visa to visit Ukraine. US Citizens - No Entry Visa Required. If you are non-US Citizen, you can simply take your invitation along with other pertinent information to a Ukraine embassy in your country, or work through a Visa company such as Zierer Visa Service (866-788-1100 www.zvs.com). Next, you will need to purchase airline tickets. We can assist you with this, if you would like. You will also need to provide us with detailed information about your flight, specifically, the name of the airline, flight number, and arrival time in the Borispol, which is an international airport in Kiev, Ukraine. The director for Cherkassy’s branch of our marriage agency, along with a translator will meet you there. From this moment our translator, a car with the driver, and a guide will provide the service you need.

The international airport "Borispol" is located 230km (142 mi.) from the Cherkassy city. We will take you to the city by car. You may stay in either the hotel Dnepr or hotel Ukraine in very comfortable rooms already reserved for you. These are very nice hotels with many amenities. You may choose instead to stay in one of the following apartments. Your hotel or apartment will be prepaid by our agency for the entire length of your stay in Ukraine.

If you wish, you may choose a cozy two-room apartment in the city centre. In the apartment are many comfortable amenities, such as: refrigerator, toaster, washing machine, Jacuzzi, TV, phone, VCR, DVD-player, audio system, and fine furniture.

You are not obligated to go sightseeing on the rigid schedule, but our guide may suggest some interesting tours to meet your schedule. Also, do not miss a marvelous trip to the Sofievka Park. The world knows many masterpieces of landscape gardening, and Sofievka Park undoubtedly ranks high among them. Within Sofievka Park legends and romantic stories are shrouded in its shady alleys, mysterious grottos, and formidable heaps of rocks. These legends have been handed down from generation to generation about how the park was laid by the serfs of Count Porocki. One of them is a curious story about park's foundation.

There is one romantic story about Count Stanislav Potocki, a very rich and powerful man who fell in love with a beautiful Greek girl named Sofia. The world had not seen such a beauty. Count Potocki called the park Sofievka - in honor of his wife Sofia. The place was meant to remind the countess of her native land, Greece. Before 1796 a bare hill was at the place where Sofievka is now located. What a great talent of the craftsmen-serfs who had created an amazingly beautiful, open-air museum combining the beauty of the nature with the wonder of the arts.

The park was under construction for six years. The inauguration ceremony took place in May 1802 on Sofia's birthday. Now Sofievka is almost 200 years old. The park's area occupies about 160 hectares. Today Sofievka is open for everyone who wishes to stay with nature in private, and knows how to look and to listen. It is always charming regardless of the season!
